Social Studies Grade K
Elementary Social Studies Grade K establishes a foundation for students to become biblically informed civic participants, with a focus on engaging their communities and practicing good citizenship. Students are introduced to important social studies skills such as history, geography, and economics, while learning to see the world through the lens of Christian scripture. They learn about the purpose of laws and rules in society and at home; identify what it means to be a Christian citizen living in a fallen world; successfully navigate different types of maps; explore American history and traditions; and understand the basic attributes of Earth, such as weather, seasons, and geological features. Students are also introduced to the concept of God’s law; cultivate a biblical imagination through experiencing Christian traditions; explore key passages in the Bible which display the attributes of God and humanity; and examine the Christian mission to build God’s kingdom on the earth. These topics are engaged by students through various types of activities and learning strategies, preparing them to be informed societal participants operating from a distinctly Christian worldview.

In addition to a computer with an Internet connection, most courses require speakers (or headphones); a digital camera or scanner to take photos of completed work; a printer; common household items; and productivity software for word processing, presentations, etc.
