Elementary
Language Arts Grade 5
Elementary Language Arts Grade 5 presents reading foundational skills and reading comprehension strategies through informative and literature texts, writing, grammar, and speaking and listening skills. Students are exposed to the five essential components of reading (phonemic awareness, phonics, comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency) and participate in informative, narrative, and opinion-writing compositions throughout the course. They also learn to incorporate more complex text and extensive exploration through their use of vocabulary in reading and writing. Students explore and analyze literature throughout the Bible, gaining a deeper understanding of point of view; the primary focus of their exploration is on figurative language within God’s Word, which help them understand God’s teachings throughout Scripture. Finally, students are taught grammar skills which are implemented into rigorous writing lessons and which complement various topics.
